On Friday 17th May 2019, English students at College were given a talk by Dr Miles Leeson, Lecturer of Contemporary Fiction at the University of Chichester, on the book “Never Let Me Go”, by Kazuo Ishiguro, a set text for the students’ upcoming exams.
“Never Let Me Go” is a dystopian science fiction novel, which was shortlisted for several prestigious awards such as the 2005 Booker Prize. The book was critically well received and was also later adapted into a film released in 2010, starring Keira Knightly.
The story questions what it truly is to be human, and asks how we determine whether a being has a soul or not. Complex and thought-provoking, this book asks students to deeply explore themes such as morality and identity but also nostalgia, relationships and friendships. Dr Leeson is not only a lecturer in contemporary fiction, but also focuses his research on ethics within Literature; something that is key to the analysis of the book. With Dr Miles Leeson on hand to offer a new perspective on the matter, students were given invaluable academic insight into the exam text for the upcoming exam.
If you are interested in exploring ethics through literature, why not come and study A Level English Literature at Worthing College, where you will be given the opportunity to hear talks from specialists in the field and push yourself and your work beyond what you believed possible.
You can still apply for September 2019 here.
